It’s about halfway through the season now, and West Morris is still in control over their rival, the Mendham Minutemen. The Lady Highlander’s beat their sister school in a two game win (25-14, 25-11) in their second meeting this season. Although both teams played well, the home advantage for WMC helped them in gaining another “W” against the Minutemen.
Game one of the match began with great enthusiasm on both ends of the court, neither one succumbing to the cheers and chants of the other side. West Morris Central maintained a large lead throughout the game that led to victory with the help of Libero Alisa Ryncarz (1 kill, 9 digs) and Setter Chrissy Baffuto (2 digs).
With the first game under their belt, the Lady Highlanders continued to dominate on their side of the court in the following match-up. After finishing the game with a 14-point lead, Central breathed a sigh of relief as they went away with the win. Jackie Falzarano ended with 8 kills and 18 hits, and Kelly Maguire marked 11 kills, 2 blocks, and 5 digs.
Fairly new to the starting roster, Morgan Cross impressed the team with 3 kills, 1 block, and 2 digs. “Our enthusiasm for this game made a big difference in the outcome. We were able to pick each other up when we made mistakes and always had energy-allowing us to play our best” explained Morgan Blair, who ended with 3 kills and 1 block.
Although the scheduled matches between Mendham and Central have been played, the sister schools look to see each other again in the near future as they approach the County and State tournaments.
