In Roxbury’s first swim meet against Saint Elizabeth’s Academy, and in the end, Saint Elizabeth beat Roxbury with a score of 54 points to 40 points in Saint Elizabeth’s four lane pool.
St. Elizabeth dominated in the first race, the 200 medley relay, placing first and second earning them a massive nine points verse Roxbury’s one point. It was this, the first race, in which Saint Elizabeth helped win the race since the rest of the meet was close.
Roxbury earned seven points verse Saint Elizabeth’s in the 200 freestyle. Freshman Ashley Singewald placed first with a time of 2:16:85 and senior Sarah Cummins placed third in the race. Saint Elizabeth’s Gabrielle Zingalis placed third.
In the 200 individual medley, both Saint Elizabeth and Roxbury earned four points. Senior Lindsay Alexander placed first with a time of 2:27:94. The second place finisher, Dani Martinez from Saint Elizabeth’s, finished five seconds after Alexander and the third place finisher, Laurel Repsha finished 2 seconds after Martinez.
In the 50 freestyle, freshman Torie Miller placed first with :a time of 47:42, beating second place finisher, Saint Elizabeth’s freshman Shannon Law-Clark by less than fourty tenths of a second. Saint Elizabeth’s Katie Golway placed third.
In the fifth race, the 100 butterfly, Saint Elizabeth’s Laura Brundage placed first earning Saint Elizabeth four points, yet with Roxbury’s senior, Sarah Cummins placing second, and freshman Jess Scillia placing third, Roxbury also earned four points.
The 100 freestyle was a rapid race, with each competitor finishing with a time a little over a minute, with the slowest time being 1:02:4. Saint Elizabeth’s Kim Brady placed first and Saint Elizabeth’s sophomore Bree Baptiste placed second. Senior Stephanie Gonzales from Roxbury placed third.
In the 500 freestyle, Roxbury placed both first and second earning a total of seven points, verse Saint Elizabeth earning one. Singewald dominated the race finishing fifty seconds before the second place finisher, junior Michelle Graham. This 500 freestyle was Grahams first time swimming the race, and after facing a ton of nerves, Graham finished over a minute before the third place finisher.
Saint Elizabeth earned seven points in the 200 freestyle relay, with Roxbury earning three points. Roxbury placed second, with the team of Alexander, Singewald, Cummins, and Miller. They finished three seconds behind the first place team from Saint Elizabeth. The first place team consisted of Baptiste, Law-Clark, Martinez, and Clare Demberger.
For the third time, both Saint Elizabeth and Roxbury earned four points in a race. This race was the 100 backstroke. Alexander placed first with a time of 1:07:55, and Saint
Elizabeth’s Kim Brady placed second and Maddie McCleary placing third.
For the fourth time, Roxbury and Saint Elizabeth had both earned four points. The 100 breaststroke was a close race for the first, second, and third place positions. Yet, it was Saint Elizabeth who placed first, while Roxbury placed second and third. Repsha beat out Roxbury’s sophomore Alexa Migton by a little over one second. Migton beat out third place finisher, freshman Taylor MacEwen, by fifty tenths of a second.
In the final race, the 400 freestyle relay, Saint Elizabeth placed first and second, with Roxbury placing third. Saint Elizabeth earned nine points, which helped them secure their victory in this close meet full of good swims and personal best times for all.
