On October 21, 2009 the Lady Falcon Field Hockey Players were escorted out by their parents to be recognized as graduating seniors. The atmosphere was filled with varying emotions from sadness to excitement from the players as well as their parents. When each senior was asked after the game to reflect on the memories gathered over the past 4 years of playing, some responded with serious memories, while others funny. However, all 9 seniors had one commonality in their answers, the desire to win.
Nikki DiStasi, when asked what her craziest field hockey moment was, dug deep into the past to recall a freshman memory. She recalls watching the varsity’s night game where the girls won in overtime. She stated, “It was a great game.” Her most challenging moment came in her junior year when the Falcons beat Newton. Her comments regarding the game came as followed: “We all worked so hard and it definitely paid off.” DiStasi’s most memorable moment involves her senior year and making states. Nikki believes Coach Farris influenced her the most; “She showed us that we could win our games and have tons of fun doing it.” She would also like to thank her parents for supporting her in whatever she decides to do. Nikki plans on going to college for business management and hopes to study abroad along the way.
Kate Feuss remembered that her craziest moment was the first time that she dove and that her most challenging was when the team played High Point and won her junior year. Feuss also described that her most memorable moments came when the team gathered for “all the pasta party madness.” Kate, when asked who her most influential people were, replied, “Coach and my sisters.” She also would like to thank teammate Jodi Trautmann for being a great teammate and always there. Kate plans on attending County College of Morris and then transferring to William Paterson University to major in Business Administration.
Senior Jackie Hyder also hinted at her competitive edge when she said that her “greatest moment of all 4 years is going to states senior year.” When asked about her most influential person regarding field hockey, she replied, “Coach Ryan because she taught me new things and was always telling me how to get better.” Hyder also wanted to thank her parents for always supporting her and going to every game, along with Coach for giving her the opportunity to play the sport she loves. Jackie would like to attend Kean University and play field hockey for them while majoring in math education.

She says that her teammates have had the most influence on her and that she would like to thank Coach “for always pushing me to do better and never give up.” Poquette plans to further her education by attending Montclair University.
Captain Kate Saxer affirmed that her craziest moments came during the pasta parties where the team played games such as "Never Have I Ever." Kate’s most challenging moments came early in her career when she first had to learn the game, while her most memorable moments came later in her career when they made states her sophomore year along with this year. Saxer also believed that the people who influenced her playing the most would be her fellow seniors because, as she states, “we’ve been through it all together.” She would also like to thank her fellow seniors for “sticking with each other through it all.” Kate is hopeful that she will continue her playing at whatever college she decides.
Faaria Siddiqi reflects on her craziest moments being with the 2008 JV team. She referred to them as “the best team ever!” Much like a lot of the other seniors, her most memorable moment is going to states. Faaria’s biggest influence came from Coach Farris because she recollected that “she’s the best and I really learned a lot from her.” Siddiqi plans on going to a college for architecture either in Rhode Island or Boston.
In her field hockey career, Captain Colleen Small says that making states is her craziest moment . Her most challenging goal was team-based and that was obtaining a .500 record. Captain Jodi Trautmann claims that her craziest moments came along with all the “fun practices where we just goofed around and played the princess game.” Jodi’s most challenging moment was trying to focus on staying tighter on her marks while her most memorable was beating Newton 2-0 her junior year. Her biggest influence is her older sister Taylor because she would always help her when she needed it. Trautmann would like to “thank Coach Savage (Ferris) for always giving me constructive criticism, believing in me, and trusting me.” Trautmann feels that Coach Savage is an amazing coach and person. As for college, Jodi is currently leaning towards County College of Morris to study nursing and then plans to transfer to another college.
Rounding out the senior bunch is Mary Verzi, and her craziest moments came when the field hockey team played a game called "Wah." She said, “it must look absolutely ridiculous, but it’s so fun.” Her most memorable moment was shutting out Newton her junior year with a score of 2-0. “It was the best feeling ever to know that we beat the best team in the SCIL.” Coach Savage (Ferris) had the most influence on Verzi because she learned so much from her both playing-wise and also how to push herself to the absolute limits. “Having her as a Coach was so great and it made me enjoy field hockey so much more.”
The Lady Falcons will have to find some way to compensate for the loss of 9 seniors next year, however, looking only one day into the future the Falcon Field Hockey Team will end their 2009 season tomorrow with a game against Newton.
