The energy flowed at full speed in yesterday’s game at Wallkill Valley. After losing the season opener at Boonton last Friday, Pequannock came out ready to win. The team battled to a halftime lead of 30-13, stunning Wallkill who blew their opponent away at their opener the Friday before. After a well-needed talk in the locker room during halftime, Wallkill decided to make a comeback. Pequannock also came out just as fired up at the start of the game with a memorable steal by Kenny Brunda from a Wallkill player, followed by a perfect pass to Steve Boyd sending the score to 35-13. Having had enough, Wallkill put their magic to work with help from seniors Dan Nann and Chris Rago, and juniors Kaje Cowans, Charlie Buvis, and Keith Yearwood later on, making for an interesting, high energy third quarter. Soon enough, the score was 25-38. The energy carried on through the fourth quarter with Wallkill scoring a large sum of their total points then, but even Keith Yearwood’s lead scoring 19 points for the Rangers could not lead them to victory. Pequannock’s offense ruled the floor with another memorable breakaway by Joe Vedovino to Steve Boyd, along with a strong defensive effort by Jordan Tabakman. Though it was obvious that the Rangers never lost hope, Pequannock soared to the top winning their first game 63-49. Steve Boyd led the team with 19 points.
